Questions 1 to 5 of 10
1.
I talk to my baby:
In "parentese," or slow speech containing short words and sentences with exaggerated vowels
Like I talk to adults, so she'll learn to speak that way
2.
When I'm doing something like changing my child's diaper or taking off her shoes, I:
Babble about whatever comes to mind, or don't talk at all
Talk about the action while I'm doing it.
3.
Before initiating a "conversation" with my baby, I:
Make it a point to try to make eye contact and capture her attention.
Don't necessarily make eye contact, because I know she's listening to me.
4.
When talking to my baby, I:
Avoid asking her questions -- why bother if she can't respond?
Ask her questions so she will eventually be able to recognize a question and respond.
5.
After saying something to baby, I:
Give her a chance to respond, even if it's just with a smile or coo.
Don't usually give her a chance to respond because I know she's not at that point yet.
