Hi,
Continuing with our Personality Week at 3SmartCubes.com, we shall today take up the self-regulation test - Are You Able to Control Your Emotions? We often talk about the importance of emotions in personality and behavior. What goes often understated, if not unstated, is the ability for us to control our emotions. As with many things, no emotion, good or bad, works well in excess. Moderation and balance is vital to a well-rounded personality.
Regulation of emotions essentially means management of emotions. Of learning to work with them rather than give in to them. Emotions or feelings can often drive us to do things which are not healthy for us. However, by resisting temptation and impulsiveness we gain control over our emotions.
Self-regulation is about managing feelings so that your behavior is appropriate for the circumstances. It is about not getting carried away by emotion at times of joy or disappointment. People who are good at self-regulation do not lose their perspective of the situation. Because of this they can usually bounce back even after failure.
However, as with everything, self-regulation too has to be regulated. People who over-control their emotions tend not to express their inner feelings. They may be too obsessed with the thought of appearing to be appropriate that they may miss out on enjoying the moment.
To summarize, self-regulation is all about striking a balance. Find out if you are doing that through the test Are You Able to Control Your Emotions?
